As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Espie, the Director of Security for the Port of Baltimore, Maryland Port Administration, has garnered a laudable reputation in his field. Focusing his work on providing physical security for maritime facilities, as well as overseeing personnel security issues, he is also tasked with litigating and facilitating access control of Maryland state-owned terminals. Furthermore, he is responsible for ensuring that all persons entering the terminals have a legitimate purpose and clearance to do so. Prior to his tenure at the Port, Mr. Espie served as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Of all his accomplishments during his service with the Maryland Port Administration, Mr. Espie is most proud to have earned an excellent rating with the annual United States Coast Guard security inspection for 13 years in a row. He also became a part of an FBI exhibit at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California, for the work he performed during the 9/11 attacks upon the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, as well as at the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Once he retires from the field, Mr. Espie looks forward to continued success and hopes to acquire a position in academia as an adjunct professor at a local university.

Mr. Espie acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Law Enforcement at the University of Maryland in 1979. He later returned to college, earning a Master of Arts in Education at Cambridge College in 1992. To further enhance his career, Mr. Espie is a member of the American Association of Port Authorities' security committee. He is also active with the State of Maryland's Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council and the Secretary of Transportation's Security Council.

Recognized for his achievements, Mr. Espie received a Maryland Civilian Service Award Medal from the State of Maryland Military Department. Attributing his success to his hard work and strong communication skills, he notes that he has strived to be an expert in the art of listening and articulating his thoughts and ideas in a clear and concise fashion.
