After earning a Bachelor of Science in sociology and political science from the University of Puget Sound, Mr. Nip began working in the Philippines. In 1986, he was invited to join a partnership for a project in Oahu, Hawaii. Mr. Nip transported stones from the Philippines to Hawaii and eventually completed a $250,000 project.
In 1998, Mr. Nip established his own building materials supply company, Selective Stone LLC, with only two employees and four pieces of marble imported from Asia. He currently has 15 employees that specialize in hundreds of stones from various countries as well as porcelain, LVT flooring, and quartz prefabricated countertops. As a business owner, he handles all of the marketing, project coordination and logistics of supplying flooring and countertop products for commercial and residential construction. As managing director, Mr. Nip managed the sales, administration and warehouse departments.
In 2020, Mr. Nip's business was recognized as Number One in Stone and Tile by IUTV. In 2021, he was honored as the Best Countertop Supplier by Reader's Choice. Previously, Mr. Nip was selected to supply stones for a large project in Waikiki, which consisted of a walkway that ran from the beach to the jungle.
In order to remain abreast of developments in his field, Mr. Nip maintains his professional affiliation with the Natural Stone Institute, the Tile Contractors Association of Hawaii and the Na Pali Haweo Community Association. He has attributed his professional success over the years to his dedicated employees, his wife, clients and support team. In the coming years, Mr. Nip plans to retire and allow his family to take over the company.
