As the owner of Expand Your Learning, Ms. Zapata assists high school and college students with their academic coursework and provides them with career counseling.
As a community support specialist with the NYS Contact Tracing Initiative, Ms. Zapata offered community resources to those impacted by COVID-19 and secured shelter for a number of homeless individuals at the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Previously, Ms. Zapata worked as an adolescent primary counselor for Outreach Development Corporation in Brentwood, New York from 2019 to 2020 and worked as a substance abuse counselor for Hispanic Counseling Center in Hempstead, New York, in 2019. To remain up to date with new counseling and therapeutic modalities, Ms. Zapata maintains affiliations with organizations such as American Counseling Association and the American Mental Health Counselors Association.
Prior to embarking in her counseling career, Ms. Zapata pursued a career as a market research analyst for nearly 15 years in the technology sector. Ms. Zapata earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration specializing in marketing from Hofstra University in 2003. She later received a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2019. Recognized for her excellence in client engagement, Ms. Zapata was presented with the Building Healthy Lives Award from Outreach Development Corporation in Brentwood, New York.
As a skilled oboe player and singer, Ms. Zapata enjoys incorporating music in her therapy sessions. Beyond her primary endeavors, she donates food and items to Pronto of Long Island, a nonprofit organization. Looking toward the future, Ms. Zapata intends to teach, obtain a license and open a private practice.
