Carolyn E. Hess Westerfield Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Westerfield has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the fields of urban and regional planning, consulting and higher education

GAITHERSBURG, MD, September 17, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Carolyn E. Hess Westerfield with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Westerfield celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After nearly two decades in the field as a successful urban planner, Ms. Westerfield retired from the Town of North Branford, Connecticut, as a planning and zoning administrator in 1989. Today, she remains active in the field as a longtime professional consultant, something she has enjoyed for nearly 60 years since 1962.

Excelling in urban and regional planning, Ms. Westerfield became interested in architecture while working as a planner and office manager for a private company in New Haven, Connecticut, during the mid-1950s. Returning to college to pursue her passion, she also began working as an associate planner for the City of New Haven. As she continued to grow in her field, she accepted opportunities with the State of Connecticut Development Commission as a planner and editor, the South Central Connecticut Planning Region as a principal planner, and the Town of Fairfield, Connecticut, as an assistant plan director. Ultimately, Ms. Westerfield concluded her career with the Town of North Branford, Connecticut, where she made a significant impact as a planning and zoning administrator.

Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Westerfield was involved in the development of pediatric programs at New Haven Hospital and Boston City Hospital early on in her career. She also lectured on City Planning at the University of New Haven for over a decade between 1988 and 2003. Ms. Westerfield noted, however, that her most significant achievement was the opportunity to inspire others to become interested in her field, especially women.

Civically, Ms. Westerfield is an executive member of the New Haven Colony Historical Society. She is also a member of the Connecticut Child Welfare Association and the Junior League of New Haven and a member and past president of the North End Club and the Yale University Women's Organization. Ms. Westerfield has also participated in volunteer work for several organizations, was a class officer for the Saint Thomas Day School, and a member of the board of directors for several alumni associations. Additionally, she served on the Economic Development Commission Consortium in Hamden, Connecticut, and was active as a design review committee clerk for the Ethic Commission.

Ms. Westerfield has held a Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College since 1954. She then completed postgraduate coursework at Yale University from 1954 to 1955 before returning to the prestigious institution, where she earned a Master of City Planning in 1959.

Supporting her career, Ms. Westerfield is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been cited in over 25 editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the East.
