Supported by decades of professional excellence, Ms. Chivington, now retired, found success as an exceptional student education teacher at Tate High School from 1986 to 2020. Having distinguished herself as a teacher at Giles High School for nearly a decade, she previously worked as a resource teacher. Passionate in her career pursuits, Ms. Chivington has dedicated herself to helping students with learning disabilities.
In order to prepare for her vocation, Ms. Chivington obtained a certification in learning disabilities from Radford University, in 1981. Additionally, she worked as a certified professional developer between 2010 and 2018. As a leader in her field, Ms. Chivington considers her most notable achievement to be breaking through to struggling students and showing the students the potential they have for being successful.
Civically engaged, Ms. Chivington serves as the president of her local homeowners' association and a sponsor of The Freshman Advisory Board at Tate High School. Selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America in 2001 and 2002, she was presented with merit badges in professional development and the School Teacher of the Year Award from Tate High School in 2011 and 2012.
