Steven Hal Jones Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Law

Mr. Jones retired from the field of legal service as a senior judge



    KINGSPORT, TN, October 01, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Steven Hal Jones has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Driven to change the legal system in order to give children a voice, Mr. Jones earned a Bachelor of Science from the East Tennessee State University with honors and was named to Who's Who in Colleges. He subsequently received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Memphis University in the early-1970s before earning advanced certificates for studies at Tulane University, University of Houston, Northwestern University and the University of Nevada's Judicial College. During the early stages of his career, he served in private practice in Kingsport before advancing to become the attorney general pro tempore, through which he focused on the pandemic of drunk driving in the area. As a young attorney, Mr. Jones utilized laws that called for mandatory revocations of licenses and jail time for those convicted which was a success and lead to the implementation of other such crack down programs throughout the State.

As an assistant attorney general, Mr. Jones cracked down on drug offenders, violent offenders and pornography, and tried high profile rape and murder cases. Additionally, as a Judge he established a mental health and drug court to better deal with the special issues offenders face with the goal of making them productive citizens. He served over a quarter of a century as a judge and developed innovative residential treatment programs that work with runaway, delinquent and abused children such as EPPIC, PROJECT REACH, numerous Character Development Programs, pushed for the development of the Observation and Assessment Center, was the leading voice in developing Upper East Tennessee Detention Center and Sullivan House just to name a few that kept countless children out of his adult Criminal Court and become good citizens. Due to all the innovative programs his Court was recognized as a model Court by the State Futures Committee and Judge Jones was appointed by the Governor as a Chairman of a committee to rewrite the Juvenile Code Based on his work and innovative programs developed in his Court, Jones was appointed the National Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in Washington D.C. where he served over a decade under the administrations of President Bush and Obama writing programs, helping develop legislation and policies to better the lives of at risk children in America. He also traveled a good part of the Nation helping communities develop programs to prevent delinquent behavior. Upon retiring from the bench, Mr. Jones has continued to dedicate himself to his community, writing manuscripts for schools and courts, developing sports programs that teach character, and raising funds for charitable and religious causes.

Well regarded for his breadth of work, Mr. Jones has contributed to a number of manuscripts, including "Glimpses of Life," "Winning with Character" and has just finished "The Proving Grounds." For his professional excellence, he was honored in receiving the State Children's Advocacy Award, Appalachian Law Professional and Community Service Award, State Human Services Humanitarian Award, and two Paul Harris International Awards, and won several Judicial as well as State Children's services awards including the Tennessee Medical Association Community Service Award. He received recognition for his work in his community and countless other communities throughout the United States. In the coming years, Mr. Jones intends to continue giving back to his community while enjoying his retirement.
