PORT ORCHARD, WA, October 08, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Dr. Renee M. Lang with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Lang celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Now semi-retired, Dr. Lang is a geophysicist who has led a long career in engineering, physics and education. Her extensive career in the field began in 1985 as a structural analysis engineer for Hercules Aerospace, after which she worked as a senior research scientist for BDM International from 1989 to 1992 and a research scientist at the Cold Region Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) of the U.S. Army between 1992 and 1995. Additionally, Dr. Lang spent 10 years as the president of Sigma Technologies from 1995 until 2005.

As an educator, Dr. Lang taught physics and engineering courses and served as a visiting faculty staff member at both Saint Martin's University and The Evergreen State College. Though she greatly enjoyed class work, she was most drawn to the field, through which she often traveled to conduct her studies. Over the span of her field research, Dr. Lang studied the physical properties of sea ice in the Arctic (Point Barrow, AK). She then worked in Antarctica for four years where she was the lead engineering scientist in constructing the first glacial ice runway outside McMurdo Station. She also obtained a U.S. patent for the Vortex Generator for Passive Snow Removal, which is still used in Antarctica today. It is co-owned by the U.S. government and can be found as a transportation resource in various states. She was also honored to be named the Japanese foreign scientist of the year in 1996 and worked at their national lab in Shingo, Japan.

Dr. Lang studied at Montana State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science in geophysics in 1982 and a Master of Science in engineering mechanics in 1985. She later acquired a Doctor of Science in fluid mechanics at Technische Universität Darmstadt in Germany in 1992, where she developed a three-dimensional model of avalanche flow. In 1993, Dr. Lang was awarded with an Antarctica Service Medal from the U.S. Navy and a second Antarctica Service Medal from the National Science Foundation.

Throughout the course of her career, Dr. Lang is fortunate to be aligned with several prominent professional organizations. She served as the president of the Peninsula Neighborhood Association during the 1990s, and is a member of the Geophysical Union, the American Institute of Physics and the International Glaciological Society. Aside from her research and scholarly contributions, Dr. Lang is a longtime skier and racer who, at the age of 21, earned her professional status.
