While growing up in Latvia, Mrs. Volkova dreamt of operating her own tailoring business so that she could alter and custom make her own clothing. At the age of 16, she was enrolled in a sewing school for girls, where she studied dressmaking and tailoring. Subsequently, she began creating clothing and designing dresses, costumes, throw pillow cases, sofa covers and curtains, among other products. Soon thereafter, Mrs. Volkova's family migrated to the United States and began working.
At the beginning of her career, an older woman came to her mom asking for an alteration, but her mother convinced the woman to let Mrs. Volkova make her a dress. Over the years, she accrued more customers and began to build her own business.
Throughout her career, she has gained valuable expertise in the field as a dressmaker with Sabina's Atelier, an apparel consultant with Medea and a wedding dress alteration expert with Ali's Fashion Design. Drawing on her considerable expertise, Mrs. Volkova currently excels as an owner, dressmaker, clothing designer and consultant with SVS Atelier, through which she handles the daily business operations, creates custom-made clothing and manages finances, accounting and marketing matters.
An expert in her field, Mrs. Volkova completed an English, dressmaking and design online program through Penn Foster Career School and earned an associate's degree in entrepreneurial and applied business from Monroe County Community College. Even though her career has been filled with highlights, she is incredibly proud of evolving professionally and maintaining her passion for what she does. She is married and has five children. Looking toward the future, Mrs. Volkova aims to expand her business and establish her own sewing school for girls.
