COVINGTON, GA, October 15, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michele P. Thomas has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected based on current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all considered during the selection process.
Ms. Thomas is a Development Specialist at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) in Atlanta. Affiliated with the institution since 2003, she first became a Program Manager in the Office of Campus Planning and Operations, where she spent six years in her role. She then gained the attention of Morehouse School of Medicine's President, where she was promoted to Resource Development Coordinator, Office of Institutional Advancement from 2009 to 2012. The opportunity expanded her skills in fundraising and other significant areas of the business, ultimately leading to her present position.
Playing an integral role in MSM's signature events, Ms. Thomas has led numerous fundraising efforts to raise money for academic scholarships. She has also collaborated with external professionals over the years, including one chairperson that spanned 12 years. Possessing an exciting and rewarding career, Ms. Thomas has also been presented with various challenges. Among them, she had to become self-taught in a program titled Smartsheet, which is a project management tool that MSM acquired in March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic started. As she and her colleagues had to begin working from home on Zoom, they had to become well-versed in mastering the program. Ms. Thomas became so proficient that she was asked by the senior vice president to coach her 17 team members on how to use it.
Before working in an academic role, Ms. Thomas was involved in the nonprofit sector as a Program Coordinator at The Martin Luther King Jr. Center of Atlanta. She spent three years planning numerous fundraising events, including the well-received The Salute to Greatness Awards dinner between 2000 and 2003. Through her civic engagements, Ms. Thomas has lent her time as a mentor at Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy, The Pink Frog Foundation, Inc., as a host committee member and with SCLC Women's Drum Major for Justice Gala as a member of its planning committee and remains active with the Martin Luther King Jr. Center of Atlanta in the same role.
In 2018, Ms. Thomas contributed to the book, "Tomorrow Belongs to Her." The book was authored by Dr. Veronique Diriker. To prepare for her career, Ms. Thomas received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Clark Atlanta University in 1993.
Crediting much of her success to her mentors, including Coretta Scott King for her advice and wisdom, Ms. Thomas also became inspired by a book, "One Day My Soul Just Opened Up: 40 Days and 40 Nights Toward Spiritual Strength and Personal Growth." Written by Iyanla Vanzant, the book helped Ms. Thomas grow professionally, spiritually, and personally. Honoring her career, Ms. Thomas was a Top 10 Contest Winner of the Over 40 and Fabulous by Best Self Atlanta Magazine in 2017. She was later recognized by the magazine as an Alumna member of Over 40 and Fabulous in 2018, 2020 and 2021.
