Born in San Antonio, Mr. Gonzales came of age as a child of second-generation immigrants. Growing up poor, his parents instilled within him the importance of a quality education so that he could live a better life. After graduating from high school, he received a Bachelor of Arts in government and international studies at the University of Notre Dame in 1981, and subsequently earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence at Stanford University in 1984. Mr. Gonzales has been admitted to practice law by the State Bar of California, the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Eastern Districts of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Tax Court.
Aligning himself as a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association in support of his career, Mr. Gonzales has served in numerous capacities, including on the diversity and judiciary committees as their chairman. In 2018, the organization recognized him for his contributions with its Professional Lawyer of the Year Award. Mr. Gonzales is also a prominent member of the Santa Clara County La Raza Lawyers Association. Additionally, he was recognized with an AV rating through Martindale-Hubbell.
