Dr. Rabbani serves as the Associate Chief of Cardiology for Clinical Operations at the Columbia University Medical Center. He began his career in 1984 as an intern in the Department of Medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, where he advanced to become the Chief Resident from 1987 until 1988. At this point, he transitioned to a position at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, where he worked as a Clinical Research Fellow in Cardiology from 1988 to 1991. Dr. Rabbani was subsequently active as an Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School from 1991 to 1993.
Dr. Rabbani worked as a Professor of Clinical Medicine at both Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Moreover, he serves as the Director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Units and Telemetry Services at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Notably, in 2012, Dr. Rabbani earned the distinguished title of the Brian F. Hoffman Professor of Cardiology at the Columbia University Medical Center.
A prolific writer, Dr. Rabbani has contributed a number of articles to various scholarly journals, including the American Heart Journal, Circulation, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, to name only a few. He also stands as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Heart Association. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Dr. Rabbani initially studied at Harvard College, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry, cum laude, in 1980. He went on to attend Columbia University, where he received a Doctor of Medicine in 1984 and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Well regarded for his subsequent accomplishments, Dr. Rabbani earned numerous accolades, including the Dr. Alfred Steiner Award for Medical Student Research in 1982, the Herbert J. Bartelstone Award in Pharmacology in 1984, the Jerry Gliklich MD Award for Exemplary Clinical Care in 2015 and Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award in 2011, among others.
