As she evolved as an athlete, Ms. Carter developed an appreciation for exercise and how being in good physical shape impacted her overall well-being. In her career, she decided to help others feel confident in their bodies through coaching and training. After obtaining a bachelor's degree in communication studies and a master's degree in kinesiology and sports psychology from the University of Tennessee, Ms. Carter stopped playing basketball due to injuries and became an analyst for online games.
After her first year calling games online, Ms. Carter received opportunities to grow in the field and currently excels as a basketball analyst and reporter and co-host for ESPN, having notably been one of the youngest people to sign a contract. She is additionally active as a fitness model and before accepting a full time position with ESPN, spent time as a head fitness coach at Orangetheory Fitness. As a respected voice in her field, Ms. Carter was invited to write a foreword for the book, "Stories of Sports Critical Literacy in Media Production, Consumption, and Dissemination."
As an accomplished athlete, Ms. Carter was a member of the USA National team in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, was a member of the SEC All Freshman Team, and recognized as an NSCA All-American Athlete. She was additionally presented with the Arthur Ashe Jr. Female Sports Scholar of the Year Award. Most recently, Ms. Carter was honored among the Top 25 Trainers in Atlanta in Jezebel Magazine.
In her community, Ms. Carter has volunteered at the Tennessee School for the Death and the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Academy for Young Girls. She has also utilized her sports endeavors to connect with the youth throughout the Atlanta area. She has notably attributed her professional success to her support system, as she has been surrounded by great mentors in every aspect of her career. In addition, Ms. Carter's parents instilled her with discipline at an early age.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Carter has lofty dreams of becoming a Peloton instructor but, overall her primary focus is to continue building upon her career with ESPN while eventually developing a foundation in order to help children with disabilities who are interested in sports. Ultimately, Ms. Carter aims to reach more young athletes in the future.
