HARTFORD, CT, October 25, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bishop Juan Miguel Betancourt has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. The Most Reverend Juan Miguel Betancourt, SEMV, is a devoted Christian, who has spent the last two decades of his career in religious service. Reaching a highpoint of his career in 2018, he was appointed as an Auxiliary Bishop of Hartford, Connecticut, by Pope Francis, being ordained by Archbishop Leonard P. Blair at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, Hartford. Since his 2018 Episcopal Ordination, Bishop Betancourt also holds the title of Bishop of Curzola in Croatia.
In his capacity as an Auxiliary Bishop, Bishop Betancourt is responsible for assisting the Archbishop in the governance of the Archdiocese of Hartford. He also fulfills duties on five committees and subcommittees for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and serves as the Director of Seminarians for the Archdiocese of Hartford. Bishop Betancourt's current position stems from his tenured experience in academia, his extensive community involvement as a pastor, and his ability to bring stability across multicultural issues.
Ordained as a priest in 2001, Bishop Betancourt briefly taught at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico and Regina Cleri Major Seminary in Ponce between 2005 and 2006, after completing further studies in Rome. He subsequently spent more than 10 years as a faculty member at the University of Saint Thomas serving as Assistant Professor of Sacred Scripture, Formator, Associate Academic Dean and Vice Rector of Formation at The Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity in Saint Paul, Minnesota. In religious services, Bishop Betancourt garnered expertise as a pastor at the Saint Francis de Sales Church of Saint Paul-Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He was presented with a Recognition Award for New Professors by the American Academy of Religion in 2009.
Civically, Bishop Betancourt has been active on the Board of Directors of Trinity Health of New England. He has enjoyed serving as an instrumental member of the Mission Integration Committee, as well as, on the Audit and Compliance Committee.
Paying homage to his parents for supporting him in his vocation and for helping him to learn the necessary leadership skills to serve others, Bishop Betancourt is forever grateful. He has also been fortunate to have studied under several great mentors, who guided him and served as an inspiration for his professional choices. Before being called to the Church, Bishop Betancourt worked in pharmaceutical research.
Bishop Betancourt earned a Bachelor's Degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, followed by a Master of Divinity, summa cum laude, at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. Shortly thereafter, he travelled to Rome, where he became a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture, magna cum laude, through the Pontifical Biblical Institute in 2005.
