A talented musician and educator, Dr. Klein accepted the position of Director of the Diehn School of Music at Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk, Virginia, in 2017. Affiliated with the institution since 1986, she has been greatly involved as a professor of choral music for numerous years. She also enjoyed nearly three decades as the Graduate Program Director of the Master of Music degree program between 1988 and 2017. Under Dr. Klein's tutelage, the ODU Choir and the Diehn Chorale have performed at such prominent venues as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall and St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York, and abroad in such places as Tokyo, Italy and Scotland.

Before her tenure at ODU, Dr. Klein was the assistant and acting director of the New York University Choral Arts Society between 1983 and 1986. She also taught music at Boyle County Schools in Danville, Kentucky, for seven previous years. Apart from her teaching career, Dr. Klein maintained her own business in New York City from 1983 to 1986 and voiced her expertise as an advisory board member for various musical publications throughout New York City during the late 1980s. Moreover, she has remained active as a consultant choral clinician and adjudicator since 1987.

Sought after for her expertise, Dr. Klein was a guest conductor and vocal clinician who has collaborated with the Continental Army Band, conducting on the USS John C. Stennis, the USS Enterprise and the USS North Carolina. She also performed as a guest conductor with the Sound of America Honor Choir, touring Europe during the summer months between 2009 and 2014. In a career suffused with highlights, she was particularly proud of this period, which included taking her undergraduate students to several major concert venues to perform, such as the Notre-Dame Cathedral (Paris), St. Mark's Basilica (Venice), and Conservatoir de Musique (Luxembourg). Dr. Klein has notably shared her experiences and expertise by authoring numerous articles in various professional publications.

As a part of her dedication to music, Dr. Klein served in volunteer positions with the Voice of Virginia Fine Arts Summer Training and was the director of several nonprofit international music camps. She is a parishioner of the Kempsville Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Professionally, Dr. Klein has been a member of such organizations as the National Association for Music Education, the National Collegiate Choral Organization and the American Choral Directors Association. She is also a past president of the college section, the research council chairperson and the editor of the choral review of the Virginia Music Educators Conference.

To prepare for her illustrious musical career, Dr. Klein earned a Bachelor of Music at the University of Richmond in 1976, a Master of Music Education in vocal performance at Eastern Kentucky University in 1982 and a Doctor of Philosophy in music at New York University as the valedictorian of her graduating class in 1986. She is a certified music teacher in over 20 states throughout the country, including Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Dr. Klein is also a certified graduate teacher.

The recipient of several teaching awards, including the Robert L. Stern Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Joel S. Lewis Award for Excellence in Student Mentoring, Dr. Klein was also acknowledged with a Lifetime Achievement Award from ALLI. Cited as a Woman Scholar of Hampton Roads, she is also a celebrated Marquis listee who has been featured in a dozen different editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who of American Women.
