ROCKY MOUNT, NC, October 27, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- E. Norris Tolson has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. After receiving a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science, Mr. Tolson served in the US Army before joining the DuPont Company where he served in various positions before retiring a Vice President and General Manager. After his DuPont career, he served in the NC General Assembly from a rural district in eastern NC. He was appointed to three cabinet positions under two governors and served a third governor as an advisor. Governor Jim Hunt appointed Tolson to Secretary of the Department of Transportation, one of the largest agencies in NC where he was charged with total reorganization and restructuring its policies and procedures. Mr. Tolson received the Watauga Medal, the highest non-academic award presented by North Carolina State University.
Following his government service, Tolson served for seven years as President and Chief Executive Officer of the NC Biotechnology Center. He is now President/CEO of the Carolinas Gateway Partnership, a regional economic development organization. Mr. Tolson maintains his affiliation with the Global TransPark Board, the First Flight Venture Center and North Carolina State University. Throughout the course of his career, he has attributed his professional success to his ability to focus on other people, for whom he has always striven to contribute. Looking toward the future, Mr. Tolson plans to find more companies to relocate to the area in order to revitalize his county.
