Dr. MacConnell initially obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry at Lebanon Valley College in 1978 following with a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry at Clemson University, South Carolina in 1980. Admitted under an early acceptance program in 1979 due to his outstanding academic college performance, he graduated at the top of his class with a doctorate in dental surgery in 1984 from the Emory University School of Dentistry. Soon thereafter, Dr. MacConnell studied at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry's department of oral and maxillofacial surgery, in which he completed a residency.
Dr. MacConnell established his private dental practice in West Point, Georgia in 1984, in which he specialized in anterior and posterior endodontics, cosmetic, implant and restorative general dentistry, oral surgery and fixed and removable prosthetics. He pioneered the use of state-of-the-art, fully-integrated, networked computer systems in the early 1990s. Noted as the first dental practice in Georgia to file dental insurance electronically, Dr. MacConnell proudly built his practice from two patients with dental insurance to several thousand.
From 1998 to 2002, Dr. MacConnell served as a managed care dentist with Jerry E. Nutt Dental Consulting and Management, directing the firm's offices in Dunwoody and Fayetteville, Georgia. He drove the growth of the Dunwoody location to revenues of over $1 million within his first year while also launching and managing the Fayetteville location to high-grossing general dental practice. Dr. MacConnell further excelled on the staffs of Dan Thompson DDS and Thomas Sparkman, DDS from 2011 to 2014.
Soon thereafter, Dr. MacConnell studied dental implants with the Midwest Dental Implant Institute in Columbus, Ohio and completed their externship program and a fellowship in 2014. He later found much success as a dental implant surgeon with the Center for Family and Implant Dentistry in Bluff City, assembling a practice that includes patients worldwide. Dr. MacConnell has continued studying dental implantology internationally with the world's top implant dentists at the Dr. Hilt Tatum Advanced Dental Implant Institute in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In addition to his tenure as a medical professional, Dr. MacConnell has made an impact in real estate sales and media. With Keller Williams, he has thrived in real estate, web design, computer hardware and software management in addition to establishing a high-definition video production studio. Dr. MacConnell has also been affiliated with the American Dental Association and the Tennessee Dental Association.
Dr. MacConnell has been certified in dental implants by American Board of Oral Implantology and Implant Dentistry as well as in intravenous sedation by the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Licensed to practice dentistry in Georgia and Tennessee, he is a fellow in the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the Midwest Dental Implant Institute. Dr. MacConnell likewise holds a diploma from the American Board of Oral Implantology and Implant Dentistry, which he considers to be a career highlight.
Dr. MacConnell attributes his success to "his drive for learning and thirst for knowledge."
