An advocate for individuals with disabilities for over 25 years, Dr. Mitchell focuses primarily on transferring her wealth of knowledge onto the next generation of special education teachers.

Alongside her responsibilities as an educator and administrator, Dr. Mitchell has composed numerous degree and certification programs for Siena Heights University. She additionally excels as the chairperson of Siena Heights University's institutional review board committee and currently maintains active affiliations with the Directors and Representatives of Teacher Education Programs, the Michigan Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and the Council for Exceptional Children. Dr. Mitchell previously earned a master degree as well as a Doctor of Education from the University of Toledo.

In recognition of her invaluable contributions to Siena Heights University, Dr. Mitchell has been nominated for the university's Outstanding Professor Award on two occasions.
