After earning a Bachelor of Arts in communication disorders and a minor in psychology, summa cum laude, from the University of Houston, Ms. Alawami received a Master of Arts in communication disorders from Houston University. She also completed a fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital at the Texas Medical Center. Well qualified in her field, Ms. Alawami holds certification of clinical confidence (CCC) in speech language pathology and as a board certified specialist in swallowing and swallowing disorders (BCS-S).
Since 2002, Ms. Alawami has served as a speech language pathologist at the Houston Methodist Hospital of the Texas Medical Center. To support her professional endeavors, she is a member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, the vice president for professional education at the Houston Association for Communication Disorders, the former vice president for membership at the Houston Association for Communication Disorders, and the past chair of the University of Houston Community Advisory Board. Outside of her primary career pursuits, Ms. Alawami also enjoys pottery and shows her art with her spouse, Noelia, in their art studio.
Ms. Alawami has received many awards and honors throughout her career, including the Tina E. Bangs 30 Year Anniversay Service award from the Houston Association for Communication Disorders (HACD), and the Ace Award, which she earned in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021. She attributes much of her success to her perseverance and determination in accomplishing her goals. Among her career highlights, Ms. Alawami is most proud to have garnered a laudable reputation as an excellent speech pathologist, and to serve as a resource for other clinicians.
