Barbara Ewer Jones Celebrated for Excellence in Education and Therapy

Ms. Jones has prospered as a teacher and, more recently, as a therapist for autistic children



    MORGANTOWN, IN, November 08, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Barbara Ewer Jones has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Jones obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1965 and followed with a Master of Education in Special Education in 1970 from Indiana University, Bloomington. She continued her education with a Master of Science in School Psychology from Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis (IUPUI) in 1977 as well as coursework in Counseling and Guidance at Butler University. Needing a medical background for her work to understand special needs children, she continued her education at the University of Indianapolis in Occupational Therapy in 1993. She has certifications as a teacher, School Psychologist, and Occupational Therapist.

Ms. Jones began her career in education as a teacher in the Marion School District in Marion, Indiana from spring of 1965 to the end of the 1966 school year. She was a contract substitute teacher in the San Bernardino City Unified School District in California in 1966 to 1967, and as a first grade teacher in the Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township in Indianapolis from 1967 to 1971. She developed and directed the Developmental Preschool for children with emotional and developmental needs from 1971 to 1975 in Indianapolis. Ms. Jones also prospered as an even division lecturer in early childhood at Butler University from 1974 to 1981.

Alongside these posts, Ms. Jones served the Monroe County Community School Corporation as a school Psychologist from 1977 to 2005. After retirement, she substituted as an Occupational Therapist for Monroe County Schools in Bloomington, Indiana. She opened her own private practice as an Occupational Therapist beginning in 1998. She holds her teaching license for preschool through eighth grade with endorsements for special education in learning disabilities, cognitive deficits, and behavior disorders; specializing in treating children with autism and children born of identified addicted mothers.

Demonstrating versatility in her field, Ms. Jones has presented scholarly papers in the Journal of Learning Disabilities, co-authored the chapter "Assessment of Perceptual Motor and Fine Motor Functioning" in "Psychoeducational Assessment of Preschool Children," contributed research and publication on children of alcoholics and assessment data for the research relating to incarcerated teens and learning disabilities to Princeton University. In addition, she is an avid sculptor, painter, and quilter, and has illustrated two children's books in the popular "Little John" series. She volunteers for Well Spring, an organization assisting homeless families find shelter and for equine therapy for school supported program for teens with behavior disorders. In her spare time, she sings with a coral group called "Voices" in Franklin, Indiana.

Attributing her success to the hard work with patients in skilled care, children of all ages in schools, treatment of children at home as well as resource for their parents; Ms. Jones cites her educational and multi-age teaching with children of all ages with neurological and learning difficulties experiences as the foundation for her college teaching in early childhood and, later, work with at-risk children in the field of occupational therapy. In her coming years, Ms. Jones hopes to continue working with children with Autism and children born to addicted mothers.
