Mr. Ladd is an elementary school teacher who teaches second grade students at Mustang Public Schools in Mustang, Oklahoma. Hired in 2019, shortly after graduating from college, it was a unique first year. Getting accustomed to his classroom and all the intricacies of being an educator, the COVID-19 pandemic had begun, and students and teachers had to become fluent in virtual schooling. Despite the many challenges, Mr. Ladd was able to navigate through his first school year successfully, making strong connections with his students as he provided both academic and emotional support.
Mr. Ladd remains inspired to make a difference in the field while also advocating for a better environment for students and higher salaries for teachers, resulting in better pay and a better quality of education. Besides his commitments as a teacher, he utilizes his musical skills at the annual event of the National FFA Convention and Expo as an assistant director and pianist for the honor chorus. He is also known for his collaborative efforts with the Poteet Theatre as well as a musician in the St. Luke's United Methodist Church worship services.
An enthusiastic individual who loves singing, dancing and theatre, Mr. Ladd believes that his characteristics will benefit and transpire well into the classroom, specifically the elementary classroom, as he continues to grow in his profession. He also hopes to continue engaging in various musical director opportunities, his second passion, so that he can begin directing his own musicals in the future. As part of his civic commitments, Mr. Ladd maintained a garden program for children throughout the community so they could learn about plant science.
Mr. Ladd received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education, with a minor in music, from the University of Central Oklahoma. While pursuing this degree, he drove school buses full-time to introduce himself to the public education system and work his way through college. He is a certified elementary and early childhood teacher, a certified pre-kindergarten through grade 12 music educator, and a certified intermediate mathematics teacher for grades five through 12 in the State of Oklahoma. Mr. Ladd is currently pursuing a Master of Science in curriculum and instruction, in which he has been granted multiple excellence awards by professors for his superlative work.
To enhance his career, Mr. Ladd is a member of the local chapter of the Oklahoma Education Association through Mustang Public Schools. He was recently inspired to become a foster parent and is currently a single foster parent of a special 10-year-old boy. Among his most notable achievements, he was awarded the Rookie of the Year Award from his school district in 2019 during his first year of teaching. Nominated by the principal of his school, the award recognizes teachers who have gone above and beyond in their first year.
