James Styers has worked for numerous governmental and private companies and is an expert at interpretation and the real-world application and enforcement of environmental regulations.

Mr. Styers is a resource conservation environmental engineer and program manager for the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), a federal government agency in Washington, D.C. An experienced and diverse leader in his field, he has worked for numerous governmental and private companies and is an expert at interpretation and the real-world application and enforcement of environmental regulations. In his current role, Mr. Styers is responsible for the oversight of compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations for the Congress of the United States. In this capacity, he prepares permit applications, submits required environmental plans, conducts internal audits to verify compliance and, among other duties, writes agency policies for compliance.

Boasting over 30 years in his field, Mr. Styers began his career in 1987 as a senior information specialist for Geo/Resource Consultants Inc. before advancing to become a project manager between 1989 and 1990. He also worked as a chemical engineer and regulatory analyst for PRC Environmental Management Inc. until 1996 and served as a senior chemical engineer and regulatory analyst for Tetra Tech EM Inc. until 2004. In these roles, Mr. Styers was a consultant and subject matter expert for several government organizations, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Defense and the Centers for Disease Control, as well as for numerous Fortune 500 companies, such as Proctor and Gamble.

Mr. Styers was born in Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, he studied locally at Bucknell University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering in 1987. He is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia and has since completed numerous trainings and professional programs in the areas of law, hazardous waste, supervisory and management leadership. Additionally, Mr. Styers is a licensed real estate salesperson in the state of Virginia.

To serve his community, Mr. Styers has been involved as a member and adult leader for the Boy Scouts of America. He also chaired the special education advisory committee for the Manassas City Public Schools. Furthermore, to enhance his skills in the industry, Mr. Styers has been a prominent and active member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Well regarded for his numerous accomplishments, Mr. Styers was selected for 12 Outstanding Performance Awards between 2006 and 2019, and received a Special Contribution Award in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010 from the AOC. He also received the Architect's Team Award for Business in 2008, for Process Excellence in 2009, and for Projects in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2014.
