Dr. David M. Hudson Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Marine Biology

Dr. Hudson focuses on environmental conservation with Remote Ecologist, The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk and numerous academic institutions

NORWALK, CT, November 11, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. David M. Hudson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

While growing up on Lake Michigan, Dr. Hudson visited water treatment plants, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard installation. There were two invasive species in the Great Lakes that piqued his interest in marine science. An acclaimed marine biologist backed by 15 years of expertise in the field, he excels today in numerous positions, including research scientist and founder of Remote Ecologist, Inc. (a non-profit), researcher-in-residence at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, research associate for Southern Connecticut State University, adjunct professor with Fairfield University and assistant research scientist with the Center for Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the University of Connecticut. In his numerous roles, Dr. Hudson empowers individuals through collaboration with academic institutions and nonprofit organizations to solve problems regarding environmental sustainability and food security.

Dr. Hudson is currently focused on fostering relationships with communities and companies so that they can advance conservation and research outcomes in marine environments while decreasing the negative impacts on the environment and human health. With those goals in mind, he develops restoration, research, and aquaculture solutions for people in Colombia and South America to decrease reliance on subsistence fishing and reuse food waste to provide feed for livestock and aqua-cultured animals. Further dedicated to environmental conservation, he co-founded the business Upwell Coffee in 2018 in an effort to raise funds for marine life. Likewise, he founded Remote Ecologist, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to retaining scientists in the field by providing research infrastructure for their work.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Hudson gained valuable expertise in educational, advisory, laboratory and fellowship roles with Atlanta Metropolitan State College, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, the University of Connecticut, Capital Community College and the University of Rhode Island. Although his career has been filled with highlights, he is especially proud of having a positive impact on his colleagues, watching his students succeed and receiving the U.S. Student Fulbright Fellowship in 2011. In 2020, he was admitted to The Explorers Club as a Fellow National.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Hudson earned an undergraduate degree in marine biology and Spanish from the University of Rhode Island in 2005. Subsequently, he received a Doctor of Philosophy in physiology and neurobiology from The University of Connecticut in 2011. He remains aware of ongoing changes in the field via his alignment with The Crustacean Society, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology, among other organizations. Outside of his professional endeavors, he gives back to the University of Connecticut as a Fulbright committee member and serves on the board of the Fulbright Association for Connecticut.

In light of his vast knowledge in marine biology, Dr. Hudson has contributed to a plethora of publications throughout his career, including "Physiological and Behavioral Response of the Asian Shore Crab, Hemigrapsus sanguineus, to Salinity: Implications for Estuarine Distribution and Invasion" and "Community Shelter Use in Response to Two Benthic Decapod Predators in the Long Island Sound."

In the coming years, Dr. Hudson intends to continue empowering other scientists and conservationists while pursuing additional research within the field of marine biology through his efforts with Remote Ecologist and Upwell Coffee Co.
