Dr. Ezell has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the fields of higher education and academic administration

SUGAR LAND, TX, November 11, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Shirley Dee Elliott Ezell with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Ezell celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Leveraging over six decades of experience in a university setting, Dr. Ezell has found success as a faculty member of the University of Houston (UH) for much of her career. Her extraordinary achievements on campus have included serving as an associate professor and graduate coordinator for the department of human development and consumer sciences from 1980 to 2019, having previously chaired the department between 1970 and 1979. She also accepted the position of an associate dean of academic affairs in 1979, a role she maintained for seven years. Presently, Dr. Ezell continues to teach and, since 1986, has been the longtime associate vice president of academic programs.

Highly respected in her field, Dr. Ezell was exceptional when it came to accreditation reports and establishing new programs in higher education. Her efforts led the university to receive more funding and gain recognition as a tier one university. Dr. Ezell was also involved with numerous committees, was active on the retention and admission task force, and was an influential member and chairperson of the graduate council. Prior to establishing herself at UH, Dr. Ezell taught and chaired costume design at North Texas State University in Denton and taught and chaired textiles and clothing at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. Additionally, she was the chairperson of program planning for the Urban 13 Conference and a liaison to Southern Association of Colleges and Schools during the 1980s.

During the earliest stages of her career, Dr. Ezell had the opportunity to work in the field for such retail giants as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. Later leveraging these experiences within the classroom, she was able to offer real world accounts to better support the future career paths of her students, for whom she worked tirelessly to exert a positive impact. Honored for her work, Dr. Ezell earned a Texas Higher Education Award in 1987. She has since been recognized with an Outstanding College Faculty Award for Service in 2008, a College of Social Sciences Teaching Award in 2015, a Delta Kappa Teaching Award in 2016 and a Fort Bend Leadership Award in 2018.

Apart from her many years in retail and academia, Dr. Ezell has directed an independent film series, titled "Making It in Fashion." Likewise, she co-authored two cases, "The Challenges of Innovation and Extending the Size of Range for the Dao Chloe Dao Brand" in 2019 and "Designer Chloe Dao's On-Line Expansion and Strategic Planning Challenges" during the same year. Furthermore, Dr. Ezell published multiple cases via the World Case Association.

A devoted civic advocate, some of Dr. Ezell's community efforts have included leading the Fort Bend Women's Center on its leadership committee. She is also active with the Department of Human Development and Consumer Sciences as a member of its grievance committee and is a longtime chairperson of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce education committee since 1989. As a testament to her success in the field, Dr. Ezell has been named as an honorary member of the American Society for Testing and Materials and is a member of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists and the Association of Women in Science. She is also a former New York program chairperson of the Fashion Group.

Dr. Ezell's proficiency in the field was largely driven by her academic efforts, which began at Baylor University, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science in home economics education in 1959. Shortly thereafter, she obtained both a Master of Science in textile and costume design and a Doctor of Philosophy in textile technology at Texas Women's University in 1961 and 1965, respectively.
