James Michael Vosper, PhD, Celebrates a Lifetime of Excellence as a Teacher of History

For nearly 30 years, Dr. Vosper primarily taught history at South Puget Sound Community College



Dr. Vosper has dedicated his career to his extensive research on Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia.

    OAKVILLE, WA, November 16, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- James Michael Vosper, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Noted for his knowledge of the history of the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Vosper has dedicated his career to his extensive research on Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia. He initially obtained a Bachelor of Arts in history and secondary education from Saint Martin's University, formerly known as Saint Martin's College, in 1968, and then taught secondary social studies at Yelm, Washington. While completing his education, Dr. Vosper received a standard teaching certificate in secondary education from Pacific Lutheran University in 1971.Soon thereafter, he earned a Master of Arts in history of Catholic higher education and a PhD in history of Catholic higher education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1973 and 1976, respectively.

Dr. Vosper began as an adjunct instructor at Centralia College in 1977 and remained until retirement in 2010. Concurrently starting in 1984 he taught mostly history at South Puget Sound Community College eventually retiring in 2010 as an Associate Faculty Professor. Dr. Vosper currently serves on the National Alumni Board of Saint Martin's University and attends and contributes to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elma, Washington.

Though his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Vosper fondly recalls his contributions to the monograph on the history of the Catholic parish in Centralia, Washington. Moreover, he is honored to have been the singular associate faculty member selected to be the faculty speaker at a South Puget Sound graduation ceremony. Additionally, he is incredibly proud of his work as a diarist, as he has written a daily diary entry since June 1st, 1966. Above all, Dr. Vosper attributes his success to his unparalleled persistence.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Vosper had professional affiliations with Phi Delta Kappa, the American Federation of Teachers, and the National Education Association. He is a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He is a past president of the Olympia Genealogical Society and past vice-president of the Washington State Genealogical Society. He is currently completing research on genealogy and family history. Though he is now enjoying his well-deserved retirement, Dr. Vosper's goal for the future is to publish a multitude of genealogical information.
