He began his career in 1965, at which point he was employed as a manager of accounting services with the Guarantee Reserve Life Insurance Company. Soon thereafter, Mr. Seward gained experience as an assistant controller for several companies prior to being appointed as the vice president and treasurer of Home & Auto Insurance Company in Chicago in 1973.
In 1983, Mr. Seward was recruited as the president, director and chief executive officer of Universal Fire & Casualty Insurance Company, for which he also served as the chairman of the board for numerous years. In 1992, he co-founded J&J Underwriting Services Inc. Throughout his career, he served as president, chairman and chief executive officer of numerous insurance companies. For 10 years, he notably worked for Warren Buffett at Home & Auto Insurance, where Mr. Buffett is active as his mentor. Since 1995, Mr. Seward has excelled as the chairman and chief executive officer of Business Risk Services Inc.
Mr. Seward is a distinguished fellow of the Life Management Institute and a deputy governor of the American Biographical Institute. He has been active on the board of directors,] for the Calumet Council Boy Scouts of America, amongst other leadership roles. Moreover, he participated in charities and coached children's sports teams. Inducted to his high school's Wall of Fame, he was recognized as the Research Advisor of the Year and Man of the Year by the American Biographical Institute Hall of Fame. Mr. Seward obtained a bachelor's degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University and a bachelor's degree in finance from St. Joseph's College.
