She began her career in 1994 as a consultant for NASDAQ.
Dr. Betts served as a manager of Mellon Bank from 1995 to 1996, subsequently garnering experience at Chevy Chase Bank from 1996 to 2009, leaving as an Assistant Vice President. Since 2009, she has worked in program performance in the office of the Chief Financial Officer for the Washington, D.C. government. In this role, she works with students and matters relating to their accounts. Additionally, she teaches as an adjunct professor of economics at the University of the District of Columbia Community College.
To match her professional endeavors, Dr. Betts is the author of "Community Colleges and Solar Energy Can Sustain Africa's Economy," published in 2021. Additionally, she is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. and was named Advisor of the Year by Phi Beta Lambda, District of Columbia in 2019.
