NEW YORK, NY, December 06, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present David J. Soukup, PE, CAE, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Soukup celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Soukup is a licensed professional engineer and managing director of governance for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). As an executive for the organization for the past three decades, he originally spent 12 years as the managing director of operations, director of governance support, and the executive director of the ASME Foundation between 1988 and 2005. Among his many accomplishments, he increased international membership by 40% during a five-year period and managed a capital campaign that raised over $5.9 million for the Foundation. Mr. Soukup was subsequently named as the managing director of centers, where he enjoyed six years managing the department's $2.5 million dollar budget and was responsible for its engineering education, pre-college education, volunteer leadership, diversity activities and more.

As a certified association and think-tank executive, Mr. Soukup has gained extensive expertise in such areas as strategic planning, fundraising and project management. His current responsibilities as managing director include the oversight of ASME's volunteer and staff partnership for nine committees, heading the Licensing That Works initiative, which ensures the maintenance of the educational requirements for professional licensure, and providing his expertise to support the inter-society Hoover and Sperry Boards of Award.

Aside from his fieldwork, Mr. Soukup is an engineering educator, having worked as an adjunct professor in the department of technology management and innovation at New York University (NYU) in the Tandon School of Engineering since 1997. He teaches courses in project management, work design, simulation and operations management. He has also written extensively in his field for various professional conferences and trainings, as well as in peer-reviewed journals.

Prior to joining the ASME, Mr. Soukup maintained involvement as an associate director at the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers at the organization's headquarters in Norcross, Georgia, from 1984 to 1988. He was also assistant secretary treasurer for the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society in Knoxville, Tennessee, between 1976 and 1984.
Grateful for his achievements as an executive, Mr. Soukup notably executed various innovative quantitative applications for the associations with which he has been affiliated. He was also instrumental in the use of various strategic planning methods, e-commerce principles, the mathematical optimization of fundraising and, among other innovative concepts, pioneering project management techniques in the service sector. In addition, Mr. Soukup was influential in the lives of more than 500 graduate students as they prepared for careers in engineering and management.

Civically, Mr. Soukup has been active on the board of trustees for the United Engineering Foundation, a faculty advisor for the NYU student chapter of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, and a FIRST Robotics Judge and FIRST LEGO League Judge. He has also served as a volunteer recruiter for the University of Arizona's college of engineering since 1977.

Drawing inspiration from the example of his father, who helped him recognize the value of STEM education, Mr. Soukup attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he received a Bachelor of Science in systems engineering in 1976. He later studied at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he obtained a Master of Science in industrial engineering in 1981. Mr. Soukup has been licensed as a professional engineer, certified as an engineering management professional through the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and as a certified association executive through the American Society of Association Executives.

In 2018, Mr. Soukup was named as fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is also a professional member of the American Society of Association Executives, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, as well as a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Tau Beta Pi honor societies. Highlighting his success, Mr. Soukup received an Outstanding Professional Engineer in Education Award from the New York State Society of Professional Engineers in 2010.
