Inspired to help individuals with autism, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, and other developmental, learning, and behavioral disabilities, among other medical issues, Dr. Mrla earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Eastern Michigan University in 1998. Subsequently, she received a Master of Arts in Education from Bellarmine University in 2004. Over the years, she has gained considerable expertise as a teacher and district Autism Consultant for Spencer County Public Schools in Kentucky, followed by serving as the district behavior specialist for Springdale Public Schools in Springdale, Arkansas, where she also worked as a special education teacher, between 2008 and 2016.
While working at Springdale Public Schools, Dr. Mrla furthered her expertise with a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Arkansas, which she obtained in 2016. Backed by her outstanding body of work, she serves today as Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SageWay Behavioral Health, where she oversees staff and patient clinical programs, coordinates clinic openings across the state, and ensures that services rendered are compliant, evidence-based, and of the highest quality. Additionally, she has served on the board of the Arkansas Association for Behavior Analysis over the past five years as Vice President, President Elect, President, Past President and Secretary. Dr. Mrla also serves as the Legal and Ethics Committee Chair and the Practitioner's Committee Chair.
Throughout her career, Dr. Mrla has expanded upon her expertise with a Certificate for Teaching English Language through the University of Arkansas, as well as a Certificate in Teaching Reading, a Certificate in Teaching Children with Learning and Behavior Disabilities, and a graduate certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis. To remain abreast of changes in the field, she aligns herself with the Council of Autism Service Providers, the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts, the Association for Behavior Analysis International, the Council for Exceptional Children, the Association for Curriculum Development and the Arkansas Association for Applied Behavior Analysis.
Alongside her primary work, Dr. Mrla volunteers her time and resources promoting advocacy efforts to reduce barriers to accessing care, learning from experts from organizations such as the Council for Autism Service Providers, the Autism Legal Resource Center, Association of Professional Behavior Analysts, Autism Speaks and other local non-profit and charitable organizations. Although her career has been filled with highlights, she is most proud of being able to serve and create opportunities for quality, complex community systems of care. Within the next three to five years, Dr. Mrla aims to continue building communities of care, open additional clinics in rural areas, and continue to be an agent of change in the field to ensure all barriers are eliminated for children, adults, and families to receive access to the highest quality care to meet their individual needs.
