Ms. Kearns is an art historian, critic and professor at Moravian College

PHILADELPHIA, PA, December 13, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to honor Martha Kearns with inclusion in Who's Who in the World. An accomplished listee, Ms. Kearns celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Kearns is an art historian, professor and internationally-recognized Kathe Kollwitz scholar celebrating more than four decades of teaching and research excellence. She credits her interest in teaching to the influence of her parents, Lewis, a teacher and attorney, and Mary Lucille, an award-winning visual artist. From a young age, Ms. Kearns dreamed of teaching at the college level, and has excelled in the field since taking an art class for the first time as a child. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Arcadia University and earned a Master of Science in education at Antioch University in 1977.

From 1979 until 1989, Ms. Kearns remained active at Antioch College as a teacher and graduate lecturer in art history and literature, spending the 1988 to 1989 year as the chair of the school's department of humanities. She spent 1986 as an artist-in-residence to the Frankford Group Ministry, and became affiliated with the Goethe House during the following years. From 1992 until 2006, Ms. Kearns served as the executive director of Frankford Style, a nonprofit art school and arts center she established in conjunction with the City of Philadelphia. She began teaching art history at Moravian College and the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in 2003, where she continues to teach, and spent two years as an adjunct professor of African art history and modern design at Lehigh University in the late 2000s.

In addition to writing the seminal biography, "Kathe Kollwitz: Woman and Artist," in 1976, Ms. Kearns is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter, with produced works including "My Lifetime Listens to Yours" in 1982, "Frankford Stories" in 1988 and "King Christina" in 2003. Moreover, she is a former book critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer and a Broadway critic for ICON, and has provided arts criticism and journalism to numerous outlets throughout her career. Among other international accolades, she is a 1977 Humanities Fellow of the Aston Magna Academy of Baroque Music and Art, a 1982 Fulbright Fellow to the Netherlands and a 1986 Antioch University Fellow to the Vatican. In her personal time, Ms. Kearns is a volunteer docent at the Rosenbach Museum and Library, a Sunday School teacher and an arts ministry leader at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, where she is a longtime member.
