George Saurman Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

George Saurman is a retired executive and politician who spent more than a decade as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in the 151st District.

Mr. Saurman is a retired executive and politician who spent more than a decade as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in the 151st District. He served for six consecutive terms between 1981 and 1994. Prior to his election to this position, he was the general manager and vice president for Sellers, Kirk & Company in Ambler, Pennsylvania, from 1964 until 1980. Mr. Saurman also garnered expertise with Sun Life of Canada in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, as a district supervisor from 1958 to 1962 and Levenwood Dairies in Pottstown as an assistant manager from 1950 to 1958.

An established author, Mr. Saurman has published several books, including "A Story of Two Trees" in 2008, "We've Done Them Wrong! A History of Native Americans and How the United States Treated Them" in 2012, and "Revisiting the Memories of Yesterday: Looking Back" in 2017, all through iUniverse. His most recent book was dedicated to Fort Washington Estates, the home care facility where he has resided for the past two decades. The facility also named its Senior Center Campus of Amber Adult Activity facility in his honor.

Engaged in several civic, educational and nonprofit organizations and initiatives, Mr. Saurman was elected as a member of the Ambler Borough Council in Pennsylvania from 1965 to 1969, where he subsequently served as the mayor between 1969 and 1980. He was also active with the Wissahickon School Authority from 1965 until 1970, founded the Senior Games of Montgomery County in 1985, and chaired the task force of the American Legislative Exchange Council in Washington from 1986 to 1994. Mr. Saurman remains active as a member of the Ursinus College Alumni Association and a past president of his local Kiwanis Club. Additionally, he is recognized as an honorary life member and a former board director of the Trauma Society, and has volunteered much of his time with the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Saurman was born in Houston and graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1943. He subsequently served in the U.S. Army's 65th infantry division from 1944 to 1946, during which time he fought in World War II. Upon his return from war, Mr. Saurman attended Ursine College in Pennsylvania, where he attained a Bachelor of Arts in 1950. Decorated with a Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Star for his service in the military, Mr. Saurman was also honored with a Christ Servant Minister Award.
