Mr. Walzer began tutoring elementary school students while he was in high school, which led him to pursue a career in education. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Kent State University in 1976. From 1976 to 2006, Mr. Walzer served as a teacher for grades five through nine for the Akron Public Schools.
As an elementary/middle school teacher, Mr. Walzer taught mathematics, science and history. Moreover, he acted as a coach of soccer and track, having won awards for his performance in track competitions as a high schooler himself. Aside from his work as a teacher, he has performed duties as a poll worker for the Summit County Board of Elections since 2016. Mr. Walzer has also published multiple poems, and has contributed several letters to the editor for the Akron Beacon Journal.
Mr. Walzer attributes his success to the values instilled within him by his parents, as well as his Roman Catholic upbringing. Throughout his career, he has served as a substitute teacher, and in the future, hopes to continue working in such a capacity. Likewise, Mr. Walzer aspires to carry on writing poetry.
