Having spent years caring on behalf of her ill mother, Ms. GH Tan was inspired to pursue a career in nursing. She earned a registered nurse certification in 1970 in England and studied to become a mid-wife in 1971 in Scotland. For decades, she served as a nurse in Royal Oak, Michigan, after which she retired. Notably, throughout the course of her nursing career, Ms. GH Tan received a very high approval rating from her patients.
Upon retiring from her career as a nurse, Ms. GH Tan followed her passion for music. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in music from Oakland University and spent a fall semester in a study abroad program in musical coursework in Vienna, Austria. She presently works as a piano teacher and has been invited to perform at churches, special occasions and others events. Ms. GH Tan was a member of the Music Teachers National Association, is a member of the Tuesday Musicale in Detroit, and is a patron of the Detroit Symphony.
Throughout the course of her career, Ms. GH Tan is most proud to have cultivated numerous fruitful relationships with both her patients and students. To wit, she fondly recalls playing the piano at the wedding of a woman she took care of in the hospital years prior, and to have taught piano lessons to a young boy who was selected to sing a solo in a silent movie filmed locally. Looking toward the future, Ms. GH Tan hopes to continue building upon her musical career.
