Dr. Rajan initially earned a Bachelor of Engineering in electrical engineering from the University of Madras in 2001. After immigrating to the United States, he obtained a Master of Science in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Tennessee in 2004, a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2008 and a Master of Business Administration in finance and strategic management from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2015. Dr. Rajan continued his education at Harvard University with postgraduate coursework in financial leadership in 2018 and management and leadership in higher education in 2019.
Dr. Rajan began his career as a researcher and instructor with the University of Tennessee and University of Wisconsin-Madison between 2002 and 2008. He further worked as the founder and chief technical officer with Plasma Devices LLC in Wisconsin from 2008 to 2009 and a lead engineer with General Electric in New York from 2008 to 2009. Dr. Rajan later served as an associate professor and the director of plasma engineering research with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi from 2009 to 2017.
Dr. Rajan further founded and operated as the chief executive officer of Glasram Technologies in Texas and South Dakota from 2010 to 2019. He was additionally active as a professor and the head of the electrical engineering department at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology from 2017 to 2019. Since 2019, Dr. Rajan has excelled as the vice president for research and innovation with Prairie View A&M University.
Certified as a program evaluator by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Dr. Rajan is likewise designated as a Six Sigma Green Belt for project management, a licensed professional engineer in the state of Texas, a class IV laser user by the Laser Institute of America and in University Leadership, Excellence and Development. Moreover, he was appointed as a board director for the Center of Excellence for Advanced Multidisciplinary Programs with the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Having contributed to over 75 conference publications, Dr. Rajan has also provided his wealth of knowledge to over 40 journal articles and 50 abstracts.
Dr. Rajan has been notably honored with the Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Activity Award, the Excellence in Teaching Innovation Award, the Graduate Fellowship Award from the Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society, the Corpus Christi Under 40 Award and the Service Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. In addition, he has been selected for inclusion in six editions of Who's Who in America. Elected as the vice president of the Madison chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Dr. Rajan has been affiliated with the National Society for Professional Engineers, the American Society of Engineering Education and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Dr. Rajan attributes his success to his commitment to making a transformational impact on people's lives. He considers his foremost career achievement to be significantly building upon the research department at Prairie View University in the span of three years as well as his reception of becoming recognized as the Person of the Year by the Mayor of Corpus Christi.
