Raymond A. Dixon, PhD, Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Education

Dr. Dixon channels years of expertise into his work as a department chair and associate professor for the University of Idaho



    MOSCOW, ID, January 21, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Raymond A. Dixon, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A seasoned educator with a proven record of success in workforce development, technology and engineering education, STEM integration, and design cognition, Dr. Dixon presently excels as the department chair and associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Idaho. He teaches a range of subjects, including manufacturing system, technology and society, introduction to research in curriculum and instruction, multivariate quantitative analysis in education, and educational psychology. Dr. Dixon serves as the principal and co-principal investigator on several projects designed to increase the competency of high school students in manufacturing and develop the STEM identity of Native students. These include:

• Technical Career Pathways for Rural Manufacturing: Using a Sector Approach to Support the Northwest Intermountain Metal Manufacturers (NIMM)
• Building STEM Identity and Career Interests in Native American Students by Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and Remote Sensing Technologies
• Identification of the Critical Occupations for the Northwest Intermountain Metal Manufacturer Supercluster
• Creating a Regional Workforce for Rural Manufacturing

He also provides extensive job and occupation analysis consultancy for various sectors, including cyber security, education, manufacturing, leisure and hospitality, and natural resources.

An expert in his field, he holds a Bachelor's degree in Education, first class honors, with a major in Industrial Technology, from the University of Technology, Jamaica; a Master's degree in Technology, with a major in Project Management, Training and Development, from the Illinois State University; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Resource Education, with an emphasis in human resource development and engineering and technology education, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

His awards and recognition include the Clearwater Economic Development Association Recognition Award for Leadership in Workforce Development; ITEEA Emerging Leadership Award; Outstanding Assistant Professor Award by the Board of the University Council for Workforce and Human Resource Education; Clearwater Economic Development Association Recognition Award for leadership in improving the region's understanding of manufacturing skills needed for the future economic growth; Tomblinson Award for Excellence in Technical and Vocational Education, University of Illinois-Department of Human Resource Education; and the Halston Limited Award for Excellence in Industrial Technology from the University of Technology in Jamaica, to name only a few.

Driven to keep pace with changes in his field and contribute new knowledge to workforce development and technology and engineering education, Dr. Dixon aligns himself with the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) and the Association for Career and Technical Education Research (ACTER). He has published various articles related to workforce development, STEM integration, and design cognition in journals, including the Journal of Technology Education, Journal of Research in Technical Careers, and Journal of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering. In a career that has been filled with highlights, he is most proud of the impact he has had in North Central Idaho by providing competency profiles for job areas in manufacturing and other areas to inform content for curriculum development. Dr. Dixon intends to continue producing impactful research, developing new professionals in education, and performing significant outreach to manufacturing and teachers.
