Dr. Humayun Chaudhry Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

A noted physician and medical educator, Dr. Chaudhry serves as the president and chief executive officer of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB). An expert in medical health policy and regulation, he has played an instrumental role in helping establish the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact in the U.S., which has demonstrably increased access to care for patients, both in-person and via telemedicine. Dr. Chaudhry has also played a critical role in helping states and territories expand licensure portability for qualified physicians during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Having retired from his clinical practice in 2007, Dr. Chaudhry is most proud of the numerous opportunities he took advantage of while working in the field. Having chosen internal medicine because of an academic interest in the subject, his expertise spanned from handling both common medical conditions to critical cases. Beginning as an attending physician at Island Park Medical Care New York and at the Family Care Center in Long Beach, New York, starting in 1996, Dr. Chaudhry simultaneously worked as an attending physician and director of medical education at Long Beach Medical Center between 1996 and 2001.

Over the next decade, Dr. Chaudhry held various leadership roles with the New York Institute of Technology's College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury as an assistant professor of medicine, the chair of its department of medicine, an attending physician of its Academy Health Care Center, a medical director, and assistant dean for pre-clinical education. He served as a clinical associate professor of medicine between 2003 and 2013. Additionally, Dr. Chaudhry had the opportunity to serve as commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services in New York from 2007 to 2009.

A talented writer, Dr. Chaudhry co-authored two books, "Fundamentals of Clinical Medicine" in 2004 and "Medical Licensing and Discipline in America" in 2012. He has also contributed over 75 scholarly articles to various medical journals covering such topics as internal medicine, public health, and ethics and professionalism. Furthermore, Dr. Chaudhry lent his expertise on the editorial board of the publication, The New Physician, from 1991 to 1999.

Prior to acquiring his medical degree, Dr. Chaudhry enjoyed a successful part-time career in broadcast journalism. He worked as a reporter, news editor and anchorman for Third World Broadcasting Network in New York City from 1986 to 1995, and concluded his career in the industry upon completing his medical training. As part of his civic commitments, Dr. Chaudhry was notably involved with the Multifaith Forum of Long Island as a board member from 2000 to 2007.

An alumnus of New York University, Dr. Chaudhry received a Bachelor of Arts in 1986 and a Master of Science in 1989. He went on to earn a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at the New York Institute of Technology's College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991 and a Master of Science in Healthcare Management from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2001. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include an internship at Saint Barnabas Hospital in New York City and a residency in internal medicine at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola. Dr. Chaudhry subsequently served as a chief medical resident at Winthrop, now known as NYU-Langone Long Island Hospital.

After the completion of his residency work, Dr. Chaudhry became a flight surgeon and specialist in aerospace medicine, joining the U.S. Air Force Reserves attached to the 514th Aeromedical Staging Squadron at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. He notably became a flight commander at the rank of major. Eminently qualified in his field, Dr. Chaudhry is a licensed physician in the state of New York and has been board certified in internal medicine.

Dr. Chaudhry is an elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London. He is also heavily engaged with a multitude of other professional organizations, including the American College of Physicians, American Osteopathic Association, American Medical Association, Harvard University Alumni Association, and the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine Alumni Association as a past president.

Dr. Chaudhry received an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from the New York Institute of Technology in 2017. Dr. Chaudhry was also named as one of the 50 Most Influential Healthcare Leaders in America by Modern Healthcare Magazine in 2016.
