The Honorable Maureen Lally-Green Recognized for Excellence in Law Education

Ms. Lally-Green has contributed her knowledge and expertise to the Pennsylvania law system for nearly 50 years



In 1998, Governor Tom Ridge appointed her (with Senate confirmation) to the Pennsylvania Superior Court of Pennsylvania, a statewide appellate court.

    PITTSBURGH, PA, January 28, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maureen Lally-Green has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Education (Mathematics) from Duquesne University, Ms. Lally-Green obtained a Juris Doctor degree from the Duquesne University School of Law. She then served as a lawyer in private practice, with the federal government and in the law department of the former Westinghouse. She then accepted a tenure track teaching position at her law alma mater, where she was promoted to Professor of Law. The courses she taught included criminal law, employment discrimination, labor law, and legal research and writing. During this time at Duquesne, Ms. Lally-Green served at times as a consultant with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

In 1998, Governor Tom Ridge appointed her (with Senate confirmation) to the Pennsylvania Superior Court of Pennsylvania, a statewide appellate court. In 1999, she was elected to a 10-year term as Judge of that Court. After her retirement from the bench, she served as associate general secretary and the director of the office of church relations for the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh. Following her retirement from the Diocese, she served for three years as the dean of the Duquesne University School of Law. Ms. Lally-Green has remained active in teaching for the past 20 years, co-teaching, as an adjunct professor of law, a course in Appellate Practice and Procedure and, more recently, also one in Corporate Governance, Compliance and Risk Management.

Ms. Lally-Green is active in her community, serving as a director of non-profit Boards and of two for-profit Boards. Her present non-profit Board work includes UPMC Mercy Hospital (Chair), Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Saint Vincent Seminary, and the Pennsylvania State Board of Education. She is also an appointed member of the Supreme Court's Appellate Procedural Rules Committee. Her past work with the Court has included past appointments to the Appellate Courts Procedural Rules Committee (Chair), Children's Fast Track Committee (co-Chair), and the Pennsylvania Intergovernmental Commission on Race, Gender and its Ethnic Fairness and the Gender Fairness Implementation Committee (Chair).

As a respected voice in her field, Ms. Lally-Green has penned articles over the years, many of which have appeared in the Duquesne University Law Review. Also, she has been a frequent presenter to the law community on topics spanning employment discrimination, professional ethics, appellate practice, the Constitution and protection of religion.

For her exemplary efforts in law and law education, Ms. Lally-Green has received the Helping Hands/Judge Mansmann, Award, the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Anne X. Alpern Award and the St. Thomas More Award. At Duquesne University, she was inducted in the Century Club, was honored with the Presidents' Award from Duquesne and St. Francis University and was awarded the Law School's Distinguished Alumna Award. Civically, she has served on the Boards of Directors of Saint Francis University (Vice Chair), North Catholic High School (Chair), the Catholic High Schools of The Diocese of Pittsburgh (Chair), Our Campaign for the Church Alive! Inc. (Vice-Chair), and Saint Vincent College.
Throughout her prolific career, Ms. Lally-Green has attributed professional success to those who mentored her and provided her with valuable opportunities and to her parents who instilled in her values and a care of others.
