Now retired, Ms. Wallen previously taught Advanced Academics as an elementary school teacher for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools in Miami, Florida. Having dedicated much of her time to talented children, she notably established the gifted program at South Point Elementary School in Miami Beach in 1996 and later served as a curriculum support specialist at the division of Advanced Academics at her school district between 2006 and 2009. Presently, Ms. Wallen continues to support education as a National Board Certified Teacher with Wallen's Global Learners and as a consultant for Solace Place. In these roles, she is dedicated to building wellness strategies, empowerment habits, confidence, self-knowledge, critical thinking and creativity skills in clients and her work.
A published author, Ms. Wallen released "Grateful Reflections Journal" in April 2021, and "TLC Tender Loving Care" in 2019. She previously published along with her students, "Intentions of Fifth Graders" in 2018, "Vive Moi! Hooray for Me" in 2017, "Make Your Mark" in 2016, and "Live Meaningfully Today" in 2015.
Supporting her career, Ms. Wallen is a member of the Florida Association of the Gifted. She is also active with Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and participates in an International and National Travel Club, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and Steve Harrison's 2021 Class of National Publicity Summit. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, Ms. Wallen was a volunteer participant with her Class in a Pet Blanket Drive in 2019.
Ms. Wallen received a Bachelor of Science in psychology and sociology at Brooklyn College in 1982, followed by a Master of Science in elementary education at Nova Southeastern University in Florida in 1988. She holds a certificate in early childhood, in elementary education with additional endorsements in gifted education, and in English for speakers of other languages.
Highlighting her success, she received a Spirit of Service-Learning Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of her dedication to her students' academic growth as engaged citizens during the 2018 to 2019 academic school year. She was also a Best and Brightest Highly Effective Teacher Designee for student curricular achievement growth for the 2017 to 2018 and the 2018 to 2019 school years. Furthermore, Ms. Wallen received several honors for her contributions to the local community, including a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the mayor, the board of county commissioners, and the residents of Miami-Dade County, Florida. She also received Outstanding Teacher Awards for past students' National Dean's List and National Honor Roll status, and was an Honoring Our Nation's Most Respected Teachers Recipient, and Outstanding American Teachers National Honor Roll Recipient.
