Following the receipt of his master's degree, he has excelled as a scientist for Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, in Mainz, Germany. During this time, he was also a visiting scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, in the United States in 1983.

A trusted voice in his field, Dr. Brühl has contributed numerous scientific papers to professional journals throughout his career. Likewise, he has provided his expertise to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in Nairobi, Kenya, between 1990 and 1998 and the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, since 1985. Notably, he served as an advisor to the German Parliament in 1990. Though he has experienced many career achievements, Dr. Brühl notes that a highlight of his career has been working with various satellite teams for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the European Space Agency (ESA).

As a testament to his success, Dr. Brühl has earned recognition from the scientific assessment panel of the United Nations Environment Programme in 2012. Likewise, he was the recipient of the NASA Group Achievement Award in 2006. To remain abreast of developments in the field, he is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the European Geosciences Union and the American Geophysical Union. He previously served in the German military in the mid-1970s.
