While studying sports medicine, Mr. Jolstad came across an opportunity to work as a benefit contract analyst for an insurance company. He discovered his talents within the insurance industry and began a professional path in this field. He initially garnered experience as a claims adjuster/examiner for the Industrial Indemnity Company and as an assistant supervisor for the Safeco Insurance Company.
In 1988, Mr. Jolstad earned the distinction of Adjuster of the Year in 1988 with Alexsis Risk Management Services, a subsidiary of Alexander & Alexander, Inc., and was later promoted to assistant vice president with Alexander & Alexander Inc. Flourishing in this role, he later was recruited to act as vice president and director of risk management for other companies prior to starting his own company in 2013. Since 2013, Mr. Jolstad has built success as the principal of Olie R. Jolstad & Associates LLC. In this position, he is responsible for expert witness litigation support services regarding claims handling, insurance agent/broker standard of care, and other insurance industry customs, practices, and standards. Mr. Jolstad also provides insurance program reviews for commercial risks, and performing claims reviews and audits on behalf of clients. Mr. Jolstad has been retained in over 225 cases as an expert witness and testified in over two dozen trials and arbitrations in the past twenty years.
To keep current of advancements in his field, Mr. Jolstad stays abreast of insurance issues through various publications, technical resources, podcasts, and peer relationships. Mr. Jolstad currently is a Member of the American Association of Insurance Management Consultants. Aside from his primary vocational pursuits, he has volunteered with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Community Living Above, Wounded Warriors, and substance use disorder programs.
Mr. Jolstad holds a bachelor's degree in administration of justice from Portland State University. He attributes his success to his perseverance and willingness to learn.
