Since 2017, Kara DeVriendt has found success working with Discovery Woods School as a reading specialist and educator.

Ms. DeVriendt attributes her professional success to hard work and dedication to lifelong learning. She initially worked as a literacy tutor for the Minnesota Reading Corps. In this role, she became inspired to pursue a career in education with young children. Ms. DeVriendt obtained a teaching licensure in secondary English language arts and a kindergarten through twelfth grade reading licensure.
Since 2017, Ms. DeVriendt has found success working with Discovery Woods School as a reading specialist and educator. In her current role, she works with students from kindergarten through sixth grade, helping them with reading and preventing future reading difficulties. Though she has accomplished much throughout her career, she is incredibly proud of pursuing a structured literacy dyslexia interventionist credential from Carroll University. This is an important achievement for Ms. DeVriendt because not many teachers are properly trained in identifying or remediating issues regarding dyslexia, and she is glad to bring more awareness to the issue.
Aside from her work as a reading specialist, Ms. DeVriendt regularly volunteers with the Discovery Woods School Board, and has provided her services to AmeriCorps. She is a member of the International Dyslexia Association, the Reading League and the International Literacy Association. She previously obtained a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in sustainable community development from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Additionally, Ms. DeVriendt has earned a master's degree in education with a focus in curriculum and instruction in literacy from Concordia University.
