Walter Butler has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Mr. Butler is recognized for his decades as a highly qualified nuclear engineer



    LAS VEGAS, NV, February 18, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Walter Butler has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Butler earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1956, and went on to attain a Master of Science degree in engineering science from the same institution in 1957. He subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration degree from California State University at Sacramento in 1967. Finally, in 1973 he earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Maryland.

Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Butler served honorably in the United States Air Force where he worked as a radio operator and radio repairman from 1949 to 1952.

In 1957, he began working as a nuclear engineer for Aerojet General Nucleonics. He performed reactor design analyses for the reactor projects known as the ML-1, a mobile, low power nuclear power plant for military applications; the SPUR/SNAP-50, a nuclear power plant for use in space travel beyond the earth's orbit. He also participated in the development and use of an analog simulator for the ML-1 power plant; and in the construction and testing of the closed cycle gas turbine test facility, the G.T.T.F.

In 1962, he transferred to the parent corporation, Aerojet General Corporation, and worked as manager for reactor analysis. This work was principally in support of the project called the Nuclear Engine for Rocket Vehicle Application, or NERVA.

In 1967, he transitioned to work as a project manager for the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He was promoted to become chief of the plant systems branch for the division of operating reactors in 1977. Beginning in 1980, Mr. Butler worked as chief of the containment systems branch for the division of systems safety. This branch is charged with ensuring the safe design and construction of the containment systems for all the licensed nuclear power plants in the United States.

In 1987, Mr. Butler became a project director for the division of reactor projects. He remained in this position until his retirement in 1995.

During his retirement years, Mr. Butler resumed his passionate interest in swimming. He joined United States Masters Swimming (USMS.org); he also joined the local masters swimming team, the Las Vegas Masters, LVM. In addition, he performed volunteer work with the Sun City Summerlin Security Patrol.
