Beginning his career in Brooklyn, New York, where he was born and raised, Dr. Smolar taught as an assistant clinical instructor of medicine at the State University of New York from 1973-1975, and clinical assistant professor of medicine at Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine. Entering private practice in 1975 in New York City, Dr. Smolar later relocated to Pompano Beach, Florida, just five years later, where he began to establish himself as an expert in his field. He also began teaching again as a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of Miami and an adjunct faculty member in the Freidt School of Business at Nova Southeastern University in 1987. Additionally, Dr. Smolar lent his expertise as a professional financial consultant in Boca Raton, Florida, during 1988.
Dr. Smolar served his community on behalf of the U.S Public Health Service between 1968 and 1971; discharged with a rank of surgeon. He later served on the advisory board for Hospice, Inc., during 1985. As a seasoned researcher in his field, Dr. Smolar has also disseminated many of his findings in various scholarly medical journals as author or coauthor of his articles.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in biological science, with honors, at Union College in 1964, Dr. Smolar completed a Doctor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in 1968. He later achieved a Master of Business Administration, with honors, and a Master of Science from Nova Southeastern University in 1985 and 1990, respectively. Dr. Smolar is board-certified in internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism, and geriatric medicine. He is also a chartered life underwriter, chartered financial consultant and a certified financial planner.
Dr. Smolar is an elected fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is also a member and founding president of the American Diabetes Association Boca Raton Chapter and a life member of the New York Academy of Medicine, the Association of Military Surgeons of the U.S., and the U.S. Naval Institute. Other professional memberships to his credit include the American College of Angiology, the American College of Endocrinology, the Royal Society of Health, a fellow of the Philadelphia College of Physicians, and the American Academy Political Science.
Dr. Smolar was named to America's Top Financial Planners by the Research Council of America. The Research Council of America has also named him as one of America's Top Doctors.
