Previously, she worked for Walmart, holding several positions including Senior Director of Quality, Safety and Reporting, Director of quality, safety and clinical excellence, the Director of health and wellness practice compliance and Manager of billing compliance, health and wellness. She played an important role in informing organization's Covid-19 response and also contributed towards community and small businesses by supporting them through information and advice on responding to COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Meraj also gained valuable expertise in the field of public health in the chronic disease division of the McDonald County Health Department.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Meraj also served as a clinical research associate for MedStar Research Institute at Union Memorial Hospital, a house officer for Civil Hospital Karachi and as an adjunct faculty member in the Master of Public Health Program at Benedictine University's Moser College of Adult and Professional Studies.
An expert in her field, Dr. Meraj holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the Dow University of Health Sciences and a Master of Public Health in healthcare management and healthcare policy through Benedictine University. She also studied health policy and management at Benedictine University. In conjunction with her work, Dr. Meraj volunteered at the Women Resource Council at Walmart as a STEM liaison, the Asian Pacific Association Network at Walmart and to the Chicago Compassionate Care Network. As a medical intern in Pakistan, she contributed to emergency response for natural disasters and polio vaccination campaign.
Dr. Meraj is most proud of all the work she has done during the COVID-19 pandemic both within Walmart and outside of her work. She fundamentally believes that it has made a difference in the lives of others. She also serves on Board of Directors of Unbiased Science. This non-profit is focused on combatting scientific misinformation and finding long-term solutions to promote scientific knowledge.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Meraj aspires to remain active in healthcare and public health, through which she can exert a positive impact on the world. She also hopes to mentor and guide other public health professionals, especially women, and eventually attain a position of high leadership where she can help influence public health policy, both nationally and abroad.
