She previously worked as Director of Behavior Health Services for Hamilton Community Health, a federally qualified health clinic from 2009 to February 2022. Retaining several leading roles in mental health throughout the course of her career, including 30 years in private practice, Dr. Williams-Latnie was inspired to pursue mental health out of a desire to better understand how people think. Seeking to change their thought process so that she could help them lead more productive and fulfilling lives, she has since garnered the respect of many industry leaders over the years for her success and diligence in the field.
Among her noteworthy roles, Dr. Williams-Latnie specialized as a psychiatric therapist and clinical social worker in various school, hospital and clinical settings. She was also the owner and director of V. Williams, PhD, MSW, ACSW, BCD, PC. Aside from her clinical endeavors, Dr. Williams-Latnie had the opportunity to serve as a resident expert of child and family issues for ABC 12 News between 1996 and 2000.
Leading various industry-related initiatives, Dr. Williams-Latnie notably developed and oversaw a dropout prevention program for the Flint Board of Education for over a decade from 1986 to 1998. She maintained the same program at the Beecher School District from 1998 until 2006. Civically, Dr. Williams-Latnie lent her time on the board of directors for her local Boys & Girls Club.
Highly educated, Dr. Williams-Latnie earned a Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana Technical University in 1969, a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan in 1977, a Doctor of Philosophy from Southern California University in 2001 and a Doctor of Social Work from Capella University in 2016. Her dissertation focused on bipolar disorder, alcohol and other drug use disorders. Dr. Williams-Latnie is a diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Social Workers and has been certified as a social worker in the state of Michigan.
To support her career, Dr. Williams-Latnie maintains her affiliation with the National Association of Social Workers, the Academy of Certified Social Workers, the National Education Association and the Michigan Education Association. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
