Edith Lunsford Oates Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Now retired from a very rewarding career as a secondary mathematics teacher at Sheridan Junior High School in Sheridan, Arkansas, Ms. Oates taught for 33 years, until 2013. She also lent her time as chairman of the school's building planning council for several years. Passionate about passing along her knowledge and expertise to her students, she was equally engaged at home with her own four children. Teaching was more than just a career for Ms. Oates, it was a way of life.

Alongside her primary career responsibilities, Ms. Oates has been incredibly active within her community as well. She has notably been involved as a parishioner and a member of the choir at East Union Baptist Church for a number of years.

Ms. Oates earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics at the University of Arkansas. She is a certified elementary teacher and secondary mathematics teacher in the state of Arkansas. Throughout her education and career, she has also received mentorship from Charles Whitworth, Charles Tadlock, Phyllis Rhoden and Louise Tinsley.

Aligned with several prominent industry related organizations to stay abreast in her field, Ms. Oates has been a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She is also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and Beta Sigma Phi. In 2013, Ms. Oates was honored by being named Secondary Teacher of the Year by the Sheridan County School District. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been featured in the fourth through sixth editions of Who's Who in American Education.
