While coming of age, Mr. Tunstill cultivated the aspiration to fly airplanes. Drawing inspiration from an early childhood experience, he served in the U.S. Air Force as an aerospace munitions officer between 1969 and 1973, and later parlayed his skills into the civilian sector. From 1968 until 1985, Mr. Tunstill gained valuable professional expertise as a nuclear engineer for Babcock & Wilcox. Additionally, he worked in a similar role for Florida Power Corporation for more than a decade.
Drawing on his considerable expertise, Mr. Tunstill excels today as a senior certified flight instructor and multi-engine instructor for St. Pete Air, where he has served since 2013. Outside of his work, he remains dedicated to the industry as the chairperson of the Albert Whitted Airport Advisory Committee. A professional engineer, Mr. Tunstill holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Christian Brothers University School of Engineering, and a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tennessee.
For his professional achievements, Mr. Tunstill received a Lawrence P. Sharples Award through the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association (AOPA). He was also named as a Distinguished Flight Instructor through the Flight Training Experience Awards in 2017.
