From the late 1920s through Murray Korman's death in 1961, Korman photographed some of the most beloved celebrities of the time from his two studios. One studio catered to show business people and one studio catered to the "carriage trade" of society

NEW YORK, NY, March 21, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The story of New York City's Broadway history is not complete without knowing about publicity photographer Murray Korman. Who was Murray Korman, and what became of his colossal photographic portfolio? The portfolio was estimated to be 475,000 in 1942. How was it that this once famous and sought-after photographer slipped through the fingers of history and slid into oblivion when he died in 1961?

During his three decades working in NYC, Korman photographed some of the most well-known and beloved celebrities. Bob Hope, Anne Bancroft, Josephine Baker, Betty Grable, Loretta Young, Eva Gabor, Jackie Gleason, Julie Newmar, Fanny Brice, etc.

Upon his death, there was no money to leave his heirs. His two nieces inherited his meager estate of cartons filled with large-format film negatives, haphazardly stored in manila envelopes.

By that time, interest in Korman's work had waned. The nieces whittled the massive portfolio down from thousands to six hundred of what they believed to be the best photographs in the collection. They were stashed away and sat on several closet shelves for decades.

Clyde Adams, co-author and Curator for the Murray Korman photographic collection, has been diligent in preserving the negatives by digitizing them for posterity. The work has been long and arduous. Both Clyde Adams and his co-author, Maureen McCabe, feel great satisfaction that they have brought forth two websites and a comprehensive book that looks at the genius that was Murray Korman.

Vintage Babes of Broadway: Through the 20th Century Lens of Murray Korman should be a delightful discovery for people who love New York City and Broadway history. Readers can find more information about Murray Korman and also order the online at www.vintagebabesofbroadway.com when it is published on April 1, 2022.
