Mr. Elkins is the current area president and employee benefits practice leader for USI Insurance Services (USI). An insurance consulting firm and brokerage headquartered in Valhalla, New York. USI is recognized as the second largest privately held insurance broker in the nation providing services for employee benefits, property & casualty, personal risk, retirement needs and more. Aligned with the organization since 2014, he formerly held the role of managing director, when it was known as Wells Fargo Insurance.
Crediting much of his success on his personal commitment to those around him, Mr. Elkins enjoys consulting with companies to help them strategically navigate the health care system, provide stellar benefits for their employees, mitigate their risk, and provide better services for the public good. He was offered the role to manage branches within Illinois and Missouri by Wells Fargo Insurance Services (WFIS) and was relocated to Saint Louis to fulfill the role. Several years later, WFIS was acquired by USI and was subsequently presented with an offer to relocate once more to Northern California to grow the business in his current position as its practice leader.
Over the years, Mr. Elkins has been successful in building quality teams that genuinely care about one another. He also excels at building safe working environments where team members can grow and flourish which enables extraordinary accomplishments to occur. Mr. Elkins attributes his success thus far to his commitment to teamwork, celebrating others success, maintaining a positive attitude, and having a robust self-reflective praxis. All these he believes are key to being able to grow, change and move as both a person and professional. Mr. Elkins is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and advocates for change within his industry in both word and deed as well as continuing to listen, learn and offer his allyship. Extensively involved in various community-wide initiatives, Mr. Elkins volunteers for USI Gives Back since 2017, an annual campaign that runs nationwide and supports positive change throughout local communities. He is also a volunteer instructor for Operation HOPE, a nonprofit organization for underprivileged adults that aspire to become business owners. In previous years, Mr. Elkins served as elder and chairman of elders for SJCOC, a board chair of the SJO5K Association, a family life counselor for The Chapel and, among other involvements to his credit, continues to work as a mentor for up-and-coming professionals from diverse backgrounds.
A graduate of Cedarville University, Mr. Elkins received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and behavioral science in 1989. Continuing his studies, he earned a Master of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling in 1991 and an Educational Specialist in 1996 at Kent State University. He is currently scheduled to complete his Doctor of Education in Inter-Professional Leadership and Cultural Foundations from Kent State University in May 2023. Mr. Elkins is a member of the National Association of Health Underwriters.
