Livingston V. Watrous Recognized For Contributions in the Field of Archeology

    AMHERST, NY, March 21, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- L. Vance Watrous has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With over 45 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Watrous serves as a professor at the University at Buffalo, part of the State University of New York system, where he began teaching in 1977. He primarily teaches freshmen and graduate students in art history, mythology and Greek art. For his accomplishments in this regard, he received the National Endowment for Humanities. He was also a professor at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens for one year. In addition to his primary vocation as a professor, Dr. Watrous maintained involvement as the director of an archeological excavation on the island of Crete and as a member of the United States Army Special Forces.

Mr. Watrous obtained a Bachelor of Arts in classics and art history from Princeton University in 1966. He subsequently sought an education at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in classical archeology. For his achievements in academics, Mr. Watrous was bestowed with the Fulbright Scholarship.

Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Watrous has authored several books and articles on ancient Greece and art history. This includes "Lasithi: A History of Settlement on a Highland Plain in Crete", "The Plain of Phaistos: Cycles of Social Complexity in the Mesara Region of Crete," "Greek Vases from the Buffalo Museum of Science: Life's Possessions: Treasures from Hades" and "Archaeological Survey of the Gournia Landscape: A Regional History of the Mirabello Bay, Crete, in Antiquity." Furthermore, Dr. Watrous co-authored "The Galatas Survey: The Socio-Economic and Political Development of a Contested Territory in Central Crete during the Neolithic to Ottoman Periods."

Among his many career accomplishments, Mr. Watrous is particularly proud to have written "Minoan Crete: An Introduction" in 2021. In accounting for his success, he credits his propensity for hard work, as well as the influence of his wife, who has helped him in preparing various publications. Presently, Mr. Watrous is preparing a series of volumes that document various findings at an excavation site on Crete.
