Mary Beth Ogden Obetz received several Awards of Excellence and was named as the New Supervisor of the Year.
LITITZ, PA, March 30, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mary Beth Ogden Obetz, BS, ASCP, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Noted as an expert in hematology, Ms. Obetz retired from her role as a quality technologist at the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, in 2015. Having accrued more than two decades of experience in her role, she was notably responsible for maintaining the laboratory's accreditation, as well as overseeing monthly safety programs, conducting personnel evaluations, and collaborating with hospital staff regarding equipment. A former medical laboratory manager, Ms. Obetz also worked for several other organizations during her tenure as a supervisor, lead technologist and medical technologist.
During the course of her career, Ms. Obetz served on various hospital councils and committees. She also was employed at the blood donation center in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and, during Operation Desert Storm, obtained and froze blood to be transported to hospital ships for emergencies. Likewise active as a devoted community advocate, Ms. Obetz served as a docent for the North Museum of Nature and Science, and participated at local elementary schools' career day, where she had the opportunity to talk to fifth grade students about the field of medical science.
Ms. Obetz grew up in Tennessee and graduated from Central High School in Knoxville in 1973. Shortly thereafter, she earned a Bachelor of Science in medical technology at Tennessee Technological University in 1977. She holds a medical technology license in the state of Tennessee.
As a church parishioner, Ms. Obetz sings in the choir, taught Sunday school and chaperoned many youth group trips. She was a Cub Scout Leader. Additionally, she became active with White Gift Drive, a program that collected and provided various necessities and food on behalf of the underserved population. To support her professional career, Ms. Obetz has been a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. She is also a member of Phi Kappa Phi.
Attributing her success in the field to her passion for laboratory technology, Ms. Obetz also credits the influence of her father, a successful physician in his own right. In light of her achievements, she received several Awards of Excellence and was named as the New Supervisor of the Year by the Lebanon VA Medical Center in 2008. She was also recognized with a 40-Year Certification of Recognition from the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Obetz plans to continue enjoying her retirement in Pennsylvania with activities such as hiking, biking, bird watching, flowers and golfing. She also hopes to remain active through engagement with numerous civic and community activities, particularly those affiliated with the museum and the church.
